Exploring Your City: Where to go Hiking in Los Angeles

The city exploring never stops on our One Museum Square blog. With our prime location and walkable community, you can easily get all 10,000 steps in by walking up and down Miracle Mile. However, it’s always nice to get a change of scenery. That is where our trails come in! When it comes to hiking in Los Angeles, there are more than enough trails to choose from.

Where to go Hiking in Los Angeles

Temescal Canyon

First on our list is Temescal Canyon. This 2.8-mile hike near the Pacific Palisades is considered moderate and travels in a loop. Throughout this trail, you are accompanied by views of Malibu, the Santa Monica Mountains, and Downtown Los Angeles. On a clear day, you can even see the San Gabriel Mountains to Catalina! Before the hike starts, you will walk through a lovely park and dog-friendly picnic areas. So feel free to bring a small lunch to enjoy at a picnic table when you finish.

Rustic Canyon Loop Trail

Also in the Pacific Palisades is the Rustic Canyon Loop Trail. If you are looking for a challenge, this 4.5-mile trail is it. It also features a waterfall! It is worth noting that you will want to travel this trail clockwise up to the Inspiration Point Trail. The elevation starts immediately, and after the 2-mile mark, it’s all downhill.

Millard Canyon Falls Trail

Speaking of waterfalls, one of our favorite waterfall trails is Millard Falls in Altadena. We should note that it is about 45-minutes away from your Los Angeles apartments for rent without traffic. We promise that the scenery is worth the drive. It is also the only trail on this list that isn’t open year-round. It is closed on holidays and some weekends.

Bluffs Creek Trail

If you are looking for something easy and simple, try out Bluffs Creek Trail. It is a total of 3.8 miles and often has heavy traffic. It is also dog-friendly and is excellent for running, nature trips, and even bird watching!

Mandeville Canyon Trails

Up next is Mandeville Canyon. This dog-friendly trail is considered moderate, with a total of 7.1 miles. It also happens to be gorgeous when hiked with the sunsetting. The views of the Los Angeles area and wide trails make Mandeville an enjoyable night hike too.
