The Best Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles

Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden

First on our list is the LA Arboretum. It is in Arcadia, a 24-mile drive from your Wilshire Blvd. apartments for rent in Los Angeles. This 127-acre botanic garden includes all the essential landscapes. Two unique features here that you won’t find anywhere else are that the Arboretum has peacocks and cranes roaming around freely and it is home to the historic Queen Anne Cottage.

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens

Up next is the largest garden on our list. The Huntington Library and Botanical Garden is home to the grandest rose garden. They also have a gorgeous Japanese garden and numerous cafes, including their Rose Garden Tea Room. Fun fact, their Desert Garden includes one of the largest collections of cacti and succulents in the world. Huntington also houses some incredible art collections focusing on European art from the 15th to the early 20th century.

Descanso Gardens

Of all the gardens on this list, the one that hosts the best holiday spectacles is Descanso. In October, they host Carved, where festive pumpkins take over the garden. Most notable is their Enchanted Forest of Light around Christmas time, where each portion of the garden is a different light installation. Like the LA Arboretum, it is a bit smaller than Huntington but just as lovely as both. The rose garden is delightful and our favorite spot throughout the garden to have a picnic. We suggest that all of you living at our Los Angeles apartments for rent visit during the spring to see their Cherry Blossoms in bloom.

The Getty Center & Getty Villa

We have talked about The Getty Center before on our blog. However, we have never mentioned their garden. At the heart of the Getty Center is their Central Garden. It is the smallest garden on this list with 134,000 square feet with trees lining the walking, a natural ravine, and bougainvillea arbors. It is also worth mentioning that the Getty Center Central Garden is the closest to your apartments for rent on Wilshire. Speaking of The Getty, we also want to make a note of the Getty Villa in Malibu. The Getty Villa is a faux villa housing roughly 1,200 artifacts dated between 6,500 BC and 500 AD. In addition to the galleries, there are small gardens throughout with ancient Roman statues. One of those four gardens includes a gorgeous 220-foot-long reflecting pool.

South Coast Botanic Garden

Last on our list is the furthest from your Mid-Wilshire apartments for rent. The South Coast Botanic Garden is about 30 miles away. It is a full 87-acres in Palos Verdes. You’ll find a mix of Southern California flora, Moreton Bay Fig trees, and more specialized areas like small Japanese and desert gardens.
